Linas,
I read your free book and thought it had helpful advice. It is easy to treat everything the same. The point that surprised me is that it isn't always helpful to post frequently. This does make sense because it is harder to generate interesting content in a short period of time.

Thanks!

In fact, all Jack's books are great. But "Trout on Strategy" summarizes all his thinking.

If you are interested I encourage you to read my free e-book about business blogging "The New Rules of Business Blogs". You can download it from my blog www.positioningstrategy.com.

Please feel free to pass this book or link to whoever you think it can be useful.

Linas,

Thanks for the advice on "Trout on Strategy". It's always good to have a wide range of great books to read.

Any other Trout books you would recommend?

I am not so impressed with the Blue Ocean Strategy. Positioning is a much much better book.

What I would recommend is "Trout on Strategy" by Jack Trout. A short and straight book by the Legend of positioning.

Michael,

Thanks. That's good advice. It is a very important point to create new spaces instead of always fighting over old ones.

I've added the book "Blue Ocean Strategy" to my list of books to get.

I think Citrix did this when it was founded and for a number of years but has become more focused on competition in recent times.

Jeff

great article. I would suggest taking a look at another book called "Blue Ocean Strategy". It has some indirect impact on marketing, but it's about the changing of a mindset that every company has....the lesson in futility that is head-to-head competition in search of sustained growth. Today's competitive landscape is what the authors would call a "red ocean", meaning that it's where rivals are fighting over a shrinking pool of profitability. The authors, W. Chan Kim and Renee Mauborgne point out that this is where most companies compete, but that this strategy is not a good breeding ground for long-term profitable growth. They point out that by moving to "blue oceans" of uncontested marketspace this will create remarkable leaps in value for the company and the customers of those companies, thereby making the competition irrelevant.

I have seen a few companies in our industry try this just to fall short. It's tough work without a framework from which to build. This book provides that framework.

Take a peek, I'm sure you'll like it.

Cheers
